As you make your weekend plans, here’s something to make your Oakland night life a little easier to navigate. You can get free taxi rides if you’re out partying in Oakland Friday night. Three nightclubs, a local cab company and a law firm have teamed up to make Oakland an even bigger destination during the art walk this First Friday.

Friendly Cab is offering free rides on First Fridays to people enjoying the monthly celebration of arts and culture in downtown Oakland. Coupons to cover a short cab ride will be available at three of downtown’s newest nightclubs on Friday May 7: Penelope (11th and Clay Streets), The Layover (1517 Franklin St), and Era (19 Grand Ave). Sponsored by Kapsack & Bair DUI Attorneys, First Friday free rides from Friendly Cab will reduce drunk driving, and support downtown Oakland’s emergence as an entertainment destination.
The coupons have a $5 value, which is the minimum taxi fare as set by the City of Oakland, and patrons using them are encouraged to tip their driver! Cab rides around downtown are usually less than $5. The coupons will be available at the three bars on First Friday May 7 and will expire after the weekend. Beneath its gleaming hood runs a gas-electric engine, and it's one of 17 new hybrids providing what the company calls Oakland's only environmentally friendly taxi option.
